Man those missed niv mizzet triggers made me cry lol

tickled to death Ben went 2-1. during that draft, I was worried he was about to go 1-2. hitting that sprite after game on play 2 and having his opponents struggle to draw mana certainly helped.

Could wafo-tapa have found 5 damage from cracking the locket and drawing into another low cost spell? He then could draw 5 cards in total, or could yuuya disrupted that by playing his second spell after wafo-tapa tapped out completely?

+Jaco Adriaansen Yup, that's true, but if he had blown the locket and played Dazzling Light on his own turn and hadn't missed the trigger, Yuuya would be at 1 life when he started his turn and would've effectively had no way to win since any instant or sorcery played would kill him and Wafo-Tapa would've had bird a token from Dazzling Light to block any haste creature.

+Keyarchan nice, didn't see that he missed the trigger, but now I'm less tired I see that yuuya could always play the sonic assault on top of the last damage trigger, since wafo-tapa had to do everything in response to the direct current.

He only had 5 mana open minus the locket which costs 4 mana to blow up(and requires tapping it) so I don't see how he could draw 5 cards. 2 cards from locket, 1 from Yuuya's spell and 1 from Dazzling Light.
He was however just 1 damage short from killing Yuuya since if he blew the locket and played Dazzling light on his own turn, he'd leave Yuuya at 2 life, meaning any instant or sorcery played from Yuuya with bring him down to 1.
What he could've done was blow his locket on his own turn, try to find a land that comes into play untapped instead of the gate he played and another 1 mana spell, though he probably thought it was more safe to leave up Devious Cover-Up and Disdainful Stroke which I can't blame him for.

What he should've done was cast Unexplained Disappearance at the end of Yuuya's previous turn, leaving him with more mana open on his own turn and another bird token. I just don't see a reason not to since he would've had lethal with just the cards in his hand, never mind the cards he would draw. Perhaps he feared Command the Storm killing his Niv-Mizzet if he tapped low.

Edit: Just noticed he missed the Niv-Mizzet trigger on Inescapable Blaze so I think he did miss lethal.

Wow that last game oof. I would probably be as upset as Wafo Tapa with the judge but I think it was the correct ruling since he casted the counterspell and Yuya was ready to proceed to cast another spell. But at the same time maybe it was Yuya's fault since he rushed the play before Wafo Tapa chose all the targets. Insane game nevertheless, damn
